We have been supporting the village of Mangueta with its more than 500 children since 2006. Up to now the local inhabitants, like many others in the country, have failed to improve the precarious living conditions. Together with decision-makers and the people in the village, we have evaluated the most urgent needs and possible solutions. The main problem was the lack of clean drinking water and the diseases caused by it. Together, it was decided to build sanitary facilities and a well in the village school. For this purpose, a parents’ association was founded.
Together with the authorities and the school management we have planned the construction work and in particular a concept for the later maintenance of the facilities. We financed the work and the locals implemented it. The residents founded the “Association for the Promotion of Drinking Water”. With pride and care, the population bears the responsibility for maintaining their facilities. These sanitary measures are important for improving the health and for the functioning of the school. The gratifying result encourages us to undertake further joint projects.
